Rockville:  Summer of 1980

[for narrator, wiimote controller and interactive multi-media]

composed 2014: 25 minutes

As you might imagine based on the title, this piece is a parody of Knoxville: Summer of 1915 by Samuel Barber and James Agee.  In that piece, the poet remembers the peaceful summer evenings spent in the backyard with his family, who’s voices were like “sleeping birds”.  In my piece, I remember summer evenings with my UFO-obsessed aunt and uncle, who’s voices were, at least in my memory, rather messed-up sounding.
